Chewton Glen in Hampshire UK

I loved my visit to the spa at Chewton Glen which is an award-winning spa in Hampshire on the south coast of England.  

What’s so unique about this particular spa is that it has a large hydrotherapy pool that is made up of sections with a variety of jet options.  It’s one of the biggest hydrotherapy pools in the UK.  During my spa day, I spent lots of time moving from section to section in the pool as the jets massaged my muscles.  After that, it’s great to be able to move onto one of the nearby heated beds and totally relax.  It also has a beautiful sauna and steam room to enjoy.

And if the relaxation isn’t amazing enough they also have some incredible treatments on offer, from massages to full-on rituals.  What is great is that they use OTO which are results-driven CBD product. Guerlain Spa at the Waldorf Astoria Versailles Trianon Palace

The Waldorf Astoria Trianon Palace is a luxurious hideaway nestled in a private location steps away from the royal grounds of Versailles. The striking setting inspired me to relax from the moment I arrived, even more so at the 2,800 sq. m. (30,000 sq. ft.) spa by Maison Guerlain. I was welcomed and settled into one of the fourteen treatment rooms, where a therapist explained the treatment of my choice and took note of my preferences.

The massage was firm, as I requested, and the delightful fragrances and rhythmic movements whisked me away to a state of bliss. After the treatment, I was invited to relax in the solarium where I took a dip in the inviting heated pool and enjoyed the grand yet not-too-formal setting. Vulkana Spa in Tromso, Norway

A unique experience in the heart of Arctic Norway is the Vulkana Arctic Spa in Tromsø. This spa and sauna takes place on a retired fishing and whaling vessel from the 1950s called the MS Vulkana (hence the name of the spa). One of the most underrated thermal destinations in Italy is Viterbo, a small and charming medieval town just a short train ride from Rome.

In the countryside surrounding Viterbo, you’ll find several hot springs that feed both public and private pools with very warm, mineral-rich waters known for their health benefits.

The Etruscan civilization, which preceded the Romans, was already familiar with these thermal baths. In the medieval period, they gained great popularity, especially among the Popes, who sought refuge here when Rome was invaded in the 13th century. The thermal spa in Viterbo that I visit the most, due to its good balance between service quality and price, is the Terme dei Papi. The large thermal pool (45-36°C) is spacious, covering about 2000 square meters, and entry is €10 for 3 hours.

Sky Lagoon in Reykjavik, Iceland

Iceland is known as the island of both ice and fire, because it is up north on the map but located on a big tectonic plate. That is the reason there are so many natural hot springs in Iceland!

Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, is famous for its many thermal spas, including the incredible Sky Lagoon. This thermal spa opened in 2021 is very modern while preserving the natural atmosphere of the typical Icelandic environment.

Sky Lagoon is a lagoon heated by the natural geothermal activity of the area. It is structured by artificial rocks, which gives a very natural appearance. It feels like swimming in a cave.

In addition to this, Sky Lagoon was built as an infinity pool facing the Atlantic Ocean, offering stunning views. 

When visiting the complex, you can either take a standard ticket or one with the Skjól ritual included. It is a 7-step wellness ritual, including a cold-plunge, a sauna with an ocean view, a body scrub with exfoliant, a hot blanket and a tasting of crowberries. Terme di Saturnia is a gorgeous natural hot spring in the heart .of Tuscany. The cascading pools, formed by millennia of mineral deposits, offer a natural spa experience unlike any other.

When I arrived, I was amazed by the natural beauty of the springs and the thermal waters felt incredible—warm, soothing, and almost magical. The sulfurous springs maintain a temperature of 37.5°C (99.5°F), making it perfect for relaxing any time of year.

Getting there is quite straightforward—it’s about a two-hour drive from Rome or Florence, a little bit less from Siena. Parking is available nearby, and entry to the main cascades, Cascate del Mulino, is free. Arrive early to avoid the crowds, especially during weekends.

Vök Baths Iceland

The Vök Baths are nestled on the serene shores of Lake Urriðavatn in East Iceland and are perfectly located if you do the Ring Road on your Iceland roadtrip. Vök Baths offers a spa experience like no other. The warm, geothermally heated waters felt amazing. The cool air and the baths contrasted perfectly. It was utterly invigorating. Surrounded by breathtaking Icelandic landscapes, I felt an immediate connection to nature.

What sets Vök Baths apart is its unique floating pools at different temperature, which extend into the lake. The minimalist, eco-friendly design of the spa enhances the sense of harmony and peace. I spent hours drifting in the pools, jumping into the ice cold lake water, sipping herbal and letting the tranquility of the place wash over me. Marianske Lazne in the Czech Republic

Marianske Lazne is one of the newest Unesco sites in Europe, part of the spa towns of the continent. Located in the Czech Republic, Marianske Lazne is a beautiful mountain retreat where most hotels offer week-long spa holidays. I stayed at Nove Lazne, the biggest spa hotel in town, which has the most facilities and was also used by King Edward II.

The spa procedures in the Czech Republic are focused more on healing rather than just relaxing. Upon my arrival I had a first meeting with the doctor of the resort, who prescribed a series of treatments three times a day based on my own specific needs. My “prescription” included professional massages, gas wraps, and mineral water baths. Some guests also get a personalised diet which the chefs in the hotel cook specifically for them. In the evening I would use the extensive relaxation spa of the complex which included a Roman bath, a whirlpool pool, and a jacuzzi. Termali Salini & Spa in Locarno, Switzerland

For one of our best experiences of a spa in Europe, we suggest visiting Termali Salini & Spa in Locarno Switzerland. 

We visited the Swiss spa for a couples day, where we booked for a full afternoon of relaxation. The session included a body wrap with clay rhassoul, a private room with jacuzzi hot tub and then lastly a body oil massage. This also included a bottle of prosecco and some healthy aperitivo snacks. While enjoying the spa facilities, you can also freely walk around to enjoy their indoor and outdoor swimming pools, their restaurant and snack bar area, their relaxing lounge and even to the beach to swim directly in Lake Maggiore. 

At the spa, they also have single sex days throughout the year, special spa evenings under the moonlight and different massage packages. All which can be booked in advance on their direct site. It’s a popular place during summer, due to its outdoor pools, so if visiting we suggest you arrive before lunch and reserve anything you wish to have in advance.
