The Armada Hotel at Spanish Point – A gorgeous stop on the WAW
We had booked our stay through Groupon so we had a great deal of a room for the night including dinner and breakfast for around €150. We had a standard room on the road side of the hotel, we would have loved a sea view but it didn’t matter as the views from all over the hotel were spectacular and we just used the room to sleep.
The rooms were clean, well laid out with very comfortable beds and lovely crisp white linens. Really good pressure in the shower and a good array of teas and coffees. My only pet peeve here in Ireland is the lack of great coffee, only instant in the rooms very sad.
The original hotel was built in the 1800’s but over the course of time it became neglected and a ruin still remains beside the newer hotel which was built in the 1950’s.
We had a fantastic dinner in the Pearl Restaurant. Starting with a lovely amuse bouche in a tiny canning jar that had the best crab I have ever tasted.
We then enjoyed starters of smoked salmon, more of that incredible Doolin Crab and some fresh tuna. Our mains were standard roast chicken and a fish dish not particularly memorable to be absolutely honest. But I will remember those starters and that crab for years to come.
After dinner we went for a stroll around the hotel and to watch the sunset over the Wild Atlantic Way (WAW). It is a stunning location away from all the hustle and bustle of the cities and all you can smell is the salty ocean and the occasional peat fire burning.
