8 Things to love about sailing
Whether you’re a newbie to sailing or a regular sailor there is plenty to get excited about when heading off to sea. Seasoned Sailors will have the confidence to sail solo to their new destination whereas inexperienced sailors can always hire help. New to Sailing? Start off with a skippered yacht charter at Vyra and begin your sailing adventure.
You are following the footsteps of some of the worlds greatest explorers by taking out your sailboat and setting out on seeing. The tradition itself is something to get excited about.
When you are on a sailboat you are in control. You can stop whenever you want, change your plans. You can take a rest on deck in the sun. The world is literally your oyster. With planned travel itineraries and transport to catch at certain times, we get used to running to schedule. On a sailboat, it doesn’t always have to be this way. Now that is freedom!
The feeling of Adventure
As a true explorer being at sea anything can happen. While that might sound scary don’t worry there are very few pirates roaming the seas nowadays and virtually none if you’re somewhere like Europe. By anything, I generally mean positive things, Wild Dolphins, the discovery of a deserted island. These are the sort of things you can look forward to when sailing. Perhaps the only things you need to worry about is having enough food on board and dealing with any expected spells of bad weather. In general, it’s very exciting to sail!
Being at one with Nature
Away from modern technology and our stressful daily lives you are at one with nature. This is a beautiful feeling and something that should be appreciated. Whether you’re listening to waves, feeling the wind through the sales hit your skin or jumping into the water for a swim with the fish you will likely be closer to nature than what you are used to you in your normal life.
The ability to find remote places
Sailing allows you to access remote places that you would not have been able to discover otherwise. In some cases, you may even discover new places that have rarely been touched. This is very rare nowadays in a world where so many people are traveling. There are the package holiday travelers who stay in their hotels and live to their comforts, the backpackers who generally explore the beaten track of other travelers, but it is the sailors who can find those deserted beaches with no one else around.
Learning New Skills
While sailing you are likely to learn new skills, this, of course, includes sailing itself but also other things like fishing and free-diving.
When you’re onboard you can spend quality time with those around you. You will have the chance to build strong bonds with those that you sail with and undoubtedly create memories for a lifetime. Just make sure you invite the sort of people that you want on board. (ie: no crazy mother in laws!)
Time to think
In our fast-paced lives, it is not often that we get time to think. Sailing offers you the opportunity to really have some downtime and reflect and analyze things. If you are in need of a break, then mentally a sailing trip could be good for you. It may even help you to clarify things and make some new discoveries about yourself along the way!
