It is with pride and a belly laugh that XYUand BEYOND accepts the Liebster Award as nominated by Durham’s Love, Life, and Travel.
My blog is only 3 months old and I have made some wonderful connections and been supported and encouraged by many other bloggers. With the help of a lot of other bloggers my blog has grown in leaps and bounds and I have learned so much from you all. I was nominated by Durham’s Love, Life, and Travel and I just have to say that this blogging couple has kept me laughing out loud while following their journeys. Jimmy and Tina feel like some cousins I didn’t know I had – it must be that bizarro British sense of humour mixed with the fact that Tina keeps Jimmy in line. I am ‘chuffed’ to be nominated and want to send a special thanks to Jimmy and Tina for thinking of me.
What is the Liebster Award?
The Liebster Award is an online award given to bloggers by other bloggers encouraging and sharing the love, thereby paying it forward to 5 to 10 other new bloggers that have under 1,000 followers!
Upon acceptance of the award, the new blogger must write a blog that includes:
1. Post the award on your blog so everybody knows how awesome you are.
2. Publicly thank the person who nominated you and link to their blog.
3. Answer their questions about yourself, feel free to add photos!
4. Nominate 5–10 people with less than 1000 followers, inform them via social media.
5. Write your own set of questions for your nominees.
6. Pay it forward.
These are Jimmy and Tina’s questions to the folks they nominated:
1. What inspired you to start travel blogging?
Truth is I was bored. I had read all the English books to be found in Chelem (a small fishing village in Mexico) and had a ton of writing on the go (yeah I know we can all write the next great novel). So I decided to write a book on Living in the Yucatan. Then hubs and I got itchy feet and decided to travel the world housesitting and whilst sitting in Berkshire England I decided that I would start a blog. That was late October of 2016.
2. What is your favorite place that you have traveled so far and why?
That’s easy Donegal, Ireland – well in reality any place in Ireland feels like home to me. Donegal is called the wild west of Ireland for a reason – they are crazy out there. We have spent some deliriously happy moments hanging around the square in Donegal town with 400 other people waiting for one of 4 cabs to get back to where we were staying. The people, the wildness the scenery – Donegal is like heaven on earth. You can see why from the photos here.
3. What advice would you give to a new traveler?
Just go, get rid of all your stuff, sell it all and get your feet moving. We like to say that our kids wouldn’t run away from home so we did. We haven’t regretted it yet and we are 2 years into this journey.
4. Whats on your travel bucket list for 2017?
We are planning on some extended time in Spain (Almeria), Cyprus (Paphos) and the North of Ireland sitting in County Down for 5 months.
5. What is your funniest travel story?
Hanging out in the Laurel’s bar and off-license in Clondalkin (a suburb of Dublin) getting drunk with a wide variety of Irish folks and tormenting everyone who came to buy cigarettes out of the machine beside us. You really don’t want too many details as it involves a lot of rude banter, bum pinching and more beverages than you can shake a stick at. The Irish and the craic were good that night.
6. What has been your biggest challenge so far?
Cooking, no seriously when housesitting many of the people we house sit for have shall we say rudimentary equipment. In most places we have sat we have had to buy knives to cut butter and a decent pan to fry eggs in. I love cooking and hubs loves baking so we have kind of given up on being gourmet – but Marks & Spencer’s does lovely single meals….lol….
7. What is your biggest travel inspiration?
Other bloggers that are the same age. I get a little tired of the young’uns with more energy than me, their love lives and their banging on about hanging out in places for 10 seconds and then hiking up the side of Everest. So I like bloggers that take it slow, enjoy the place they are staying and don’t post packing tips.
8. Have you ever had any regrets while traveling?
Only one that I don’t have way more cash to travel in luxury and stay in 5 star hotels, but then I think nah that would be boring.
9. What is your preferred style of traveling?
Planes, trains and automobiles, truth is anywhere that has decent public transport is fine with me. But having said that ‘slow traveling’ is the way to go. Staying in a place for more than a weekend and getting to know the area and the people.
10. What advice would give to Durham’s Love, Life, and Travel?
Keep on doing what you are doing and keep making me laugh.
I have to go now and find another 5-10 bloggers who want to get an award, see you later!
